Case Studies

WFS supports a wide range of projects across Oil and Gas, Offshore Wind and Defense. A selection of some of our client successes have been included here.

Subsea Wireless Video

Faced with the challenge of watching a gel pig being ejected from a pipeline during commissioning, without mobilising an additional ROV and while keeping divers at a safe distance, WFS was asked to propose a subsea wireless video solution.

Extending Life of Subsea Assets

How do you monitor pipe and manifold fluid temperature wirelessly, 150 metres below the ocean surface?

To minimise risks associated with thermal expansion of pipelines, manifolds and flowlines, WFS’ client, a major North Sea operator, invested in 20 wireless pipeloggers to monitor subsea process temperature and recalibrate fatigue models

Key benefits

  • Avoided heat-induced damage to subsea pipelines, flowlines and manifolds
  • Prevented a multi-million dollar replacement initiative.
  • Maintained production with no loss of revenue.
  • Enabled accurate, temperature sensing in-situ wirelessly without major system rework.

Real-time Wireless Fatigue Monitoring

How one client reduced risk and operational cost associated with coil tube fatigue with real-time monitoring.

Determined to validate fatigue modelling of their coiled tubing system, WFS was challenged by its client to design and deliver an offshore wireless structural integrity monitoring system.

Key benefits

  • Reliable, cumulative data improved operational efficiency, reduced risk and cost.
  • 5x safety factor was reduced
  • Efficiency of operations improved. Reduced interruption by unnecessary replacement of CT spread.
  • WFS fatigue monitoring solution unlocked savings of over £1,000,000

Wireless Rescue Boards

WaveJet and WFS Technologies Partner to Deliver Revolutionary New Jet-Powered Surfboards

Working closely with WaveJet, WFS engineers helped create a wrist-worn remote control unit which allowed users to wirelessly and reliably control the jet propulsion system.

Key benefits

  • Overall project from proof of concept to full integration took 6 weeks
  • Proved Seatooth solution could integrate easily into multiple consumer-based applications
  • Enabled global launch of innovative new product to the consumer market

Retrofit Christmas Tree Sensors

How do you replace a faulty temperature sensor 300m below sea level without interrupting oil production?

A client faced the potential of having to recover and replace a faulty subsea tree 300 metres below sea level, and lose many weeks of production from a producing oil field offshore Nigeria due to a wrongly calibrated temperature sensor.

Key benefits

  • Overall project from inquiry to successful implementation took 6 weeks.
  • Prevented a multi-million dollar replacement initiative.
  • Maintained 35,000 barrel production with no loss of revenue.
  • Enabled accurate, real-time temperature sensing in-situ wirelessly without major system rework.
